Romancing a Deaf Ear

Your ear must have been cut off,
Some kind of ugly Van Gogh
Accident that leaves your voice
On the phone but you don't hear.
I call and call and call and
All I imagine was your laugh
With your friend joking about
The fool on the other end.

It's just silly to try more
And yet there are a million
Fish in the sea swimming on.
I'm bound to find that deaf ear
Again and that's all right, I guess.
I'm also bound to find love
Because it's a numbers game,
Isn't it?

Who's on What?

Ken: Hello
Lisa: Yes?
Ken: I was looking for my mind.
Lisa: Do you mind?
Ken: Yes, my mind?
Lisa: Really?
Ken: Yes, I've lost it.
Lisa: You certainly have.
Ken: Have you seen it?
Lisa: What!?
Ken: Have you seen my mind?
Lisa: My, my!
Ken: No, no, my mind.
Lisa: You're mind, you say?
Ken: Yes, my mouth seems to still be working, however the brain is no longer attached.
Lisa: Attached? Yes, I'm seeing someone.
Ken: That's nice. But have you, um, seen my, um, brain.
Lisa: Bran? Yes, that's a very good idea. Keeps you regular.
Ken: Brain! Brain!
Lisa: Go away, please. Come again some other day.

palm tree

there's a palm tree
next to my house.
alongside the driveway
it stands,
leaning to the street
it grows
reaching for the sun.

it longs to soar
among the clouds
i know
and frolic in the summer sun
i feel.
bent and ugly is its middle
tall and beautiful its future.

Stunning Face

Dedicated to Allison Munn

Pretty face and pretty eyes,
Complexion as clean as a whistle,
You're doing fine and looking fine
That accident in the southwest is remembered.

Pretty nose and wonderful hair,
Humor as sharp as a tack,
You're standing tall and dressing well
That lunch in the southeast is brought to mind.

Aged and refined,
Experienced and professional,
You've seen the lights of Broadway
That letter written to the northeast was never found.

Rich and debonaire,
Friendly and fortunate,
You've entered politics in a noble way
Helping all from the northwest and elsewhere.
